Grevillea intricata is another white-flowering WA species putting on a good winter show this year. Grafted plants (on G. robusta) can be long-lived in the east and form dense tangles of intricate foliage in the garden at Corunna, NSW - with a mass of flowers also featuring from winter into spring.
Unfortunately its rarely seen in nurseries - but is sometimes available at native plant sales. Always worth picking up a plant or two for the foliage alone!

Sun orchid (Thelymitra sp.) and onion orchid (Microtis sp.) growing together on the edge of Corymbia maculata forest near Corunna, NSW (spring 2025).
This location is a local orchid 'hot-spot' (at least for Corunna) with beard orchids (Calochilus) also found here in spring. However it is also on privately-owned land which has changed hands since last season and might be more developed this year. So hopefully any works there will not damage the orchids - which will already be battling the very dry local conditions this year!

![Been trialing the hybrid Grevillea Cupids Dream in several gardens for over a year now and while the flowers are showy Im not sure Im totally sold on the overall shape and vigour of the plant in local conditions (far south coast NSW).
When this Kings Park developed hybrid first became widely available a few years back I thought it might make a nice modern (and more compact) update to the classis 1970s pink-flowering hybrids like Pink Surprise and Misty Pink which are unfortunately rarely seen in nurseries now - at least down my way! But not sure yet - Cupids Dream might not have the same impact on a smaller bush.
Its interesting to see the change in the complexity of hybrid grevs since the 70s. Back then a pink grevillea was simply a showy white-flowering species crossed with a showy red-flowering species. Misty Pink (1975) was G. banksii (compact red flowering form) x G. sessilis (white). Pink Surprise (1976) was Grevillea whiteana (white) x Grevillea banksii (red). By comparison a modern pink hybrid like Cupids Dream (2010) has a lot more going on with its breeding - parentage is G. concinna ssp. lehmanniana × G. bipinnatifida] x pollen parent (G. Sylvia × G. Misty Pink)!
Hopefully all this work will eventually create another classic - will see how my garden plants go over this spring/summer :)

Been trialing the hybrid Grevillea 'Cupid's Dream' in several gardens for over a year now and while the flowers are showy I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the overall shape and vigour of the plant in local conditions (far south coast NSW).

The Grevillea subtiliflora has been looking great this winter in the garden with flowering kicking off in May and still going now at the end of August.
This WA species is not that well known and rarely seen in nurseries - I've had two grafted plants (both on G. robusta) that I picked up at native plant sales do well over the years in Corunna NSW, but these are pretty much the only plants I've ever seen available. In the wild it has a fairly widespread distribution but still has a priority three conservation code ('Poorly-known').
Like most of the early white-flowering WA grevilleas the flowers have a sweet scent. These grafted garden plants often have seeds, flowers and new buds at the same time over the long flowering period. The intricate, fine foliage is also attractive and not as prickly as most of its close white-flowering relatives. Definitely worth picking one up if you ever find one on sale!

NEWS | 'Edge of Light' - Melbourne, Wed, July 07 - The Chairman Cafe, 1 Francis St. Heidelberg Heights - 5pm to 7pm.
The 'Edge of Light' near-infrared circus is back on the road in July, 2021 with production starting on a new film and several new print editions set to be released. If COVID restriction stars align it will also be dropping by Melbourne on Wed, July 7 for an evening at The Chairman which will include a bit of a show and tell covering the Brindabellas film / book plus a selection of framed prints from various editions.
Prints and books will be available for purchase on the evening - which runs from 5pm to 7pm. Booking is required - tickets ($20) also include finger food and a glass of bubbly and are available from The Chairman on (03) 9939 3783.
If you can't make it on July 7 the framed prints (and books) will be on display until early August if you want to drop in for a look at your own leisure. I'll also add a print catalogue and pricing to the Dory website shortly for anyone interested.

Good early signs for the single ACT population of the rare Prasophyllum canaliculatum (channelled leek orchid) with several already out in flower plus more in bud nearby. This vulnerable site is not in a National Park and is periodically damaged by feral pigs. Last summer it was also lightly burned in the bushfires - and when we visited to see how it was recovering post-fire there were cows grazing this area, having escaped from local farms with fences down. So great to see these plants have survived all that and are up and out nice and early this year. #canberra #orchids #inthefield
