With storms clearing behind Tidbinbilla today there were some great dusk cloudscapes to the south of Mt Wanniassa – even though it was still pretty dull. This image above was captured on the Nikon IR mod (D800) while filming the same clouds on the RED Dragon testing out the Kipper Tie full-spectrum OLPF. It’s pretty amazing how close the gap is now between these two fundamentally different cameras when it comes to sheer detail / sharpness in IR stills.

A little earlier things looked a tad gloomier as heavy rain swept into Tidbinbilla.

Frames for the RED Dragon 6K footage – with Kipper Tie full-spectrum OLPF – same cloud as the image above from the Nikon.  To be fair the Nikon image a bit more detailed – but it is also two frames so is much higher resolution – and was shot at a much higher shutter speed than the footage of the clouds.
