karst country | 2016 redux

Karst (limestone) landscapesWee Jasper, NSW

karst country is back – and this time it’s in 4K!  The original toning has also been beautifully restored by James van der Moezel (head of post production at silver dory).  The original 2013 version was toned to match the prints shown at the karst country exhibition but when it was renovated slightly in 2014 this was removed in favour of a straight monochrome finish as we just couldn’t get the colours to work exactly as we wanted across various online delivery systems.

But with countless hours working with infrared footage since then to create brindabellas | edge of light James has come up with a few new techniques – so in 2016 the tone is back  … and you can now see it in 4K on Vimeo.

The original toning restored – everything just looks so tranquil and … er … Actually, despite a few moments of slightly less than cuddly footage karst has proven to be popular around the world and has been featured on numerous blogs and sites – including The Atlantic, PetaPixel,Gizmodo, Fstoppers and the Smithsonian’s Retina. karst was also included in the 2014 Fubiz Best of Time Lapse list. karst country 4K footage has also been licensed for use in several major promotional campaigns – including Hyundai’s ‘Genesis – 7 Days global launch and the American Institutes of Architects’s ‘Look Up’ national television commercial campaign.

Grading infrared footage – from flat white to rich mocca … karst country being restored and renovated (to 4K) by full-spectrum post guru James van der Moezel. S-curves don’t really cut it for James – he prefers the Z-curve and beyond!
